NBC 10 wins four Associated Press awards

NBC 10 News has won four journalism awards from the Massachusetts-Rhode Island Associated Press.

Storm Team 10 was named the winner of the Weather Presentation award, honoring WJAR's severe weather coverage throughout 2013, particularly the February blizzard.

The station won the Breaking News award, for coverage of the Boston Marathon Bombing on April 15, 2013. NBC 10 News mobilized multiple crews to Boston soon after the explosions at the marathon finish line. It provided live coverage to viewers in Southern New England and all over the world, through an affiliation with NBC Newschannel.

Bill Rappleye's series of reports on accusations against staff members at the Harmony Hill School in Glocester won in the Continuing Coverage category. His reporting included the state investigation into the accusations and reaction from former students, some who made similar claims and others who support the school.

And WJAR's news special "Heroes of History" won the Associated Press award in the Documentary category. In the half-hour special in May 2013, NBC 10 News followed local veterans of World War II and Korea as they took part in an Honor Flight visit to Washington, DC.

The Associated Press will hold its awards dinner on June 18 in Boston, when it will announce the winners of its Station of the Year awards.
