      NBC 10 wins July 2014 ratings race

      NBC 10 was the most watched television news station in Southern New England during the recently completed July ratings period, according to preliminary data from the Nielsen Company*. In all head-to-head newscasts, more Southern New England homes were turned to NBC 10 News than any other newscast in the Providence-New Bedford market.

      NBC 10 News at 6 p.m. remains the highest -rated newscast in the market with a 7.38 rating and of the 10 most-watched newscasts in the Southern New England, seven are on NBC 10. The Sunday edition of NBC 10 News at 6 p.m. surpassed WPRI's weekday 6 p.m. in both ratings and shares.

      NBC 10 I-Team reporter Parker Gavigan broke the story of questionable multi-year concession stand contracts at three Rhode Island state beaches involving a state senator and the chairman of Rhode Island's Democratic Party. Citing time constraints, the party chair resigned a day after the I-Team report aired and a state police investigation is ongoing. The I-Team's Katie Davis exposed decades-old employment documents, which included names and social security numbers, at the site of a former Hope Valley amusement park. While the owner initially denied culpability, continued pressure from the I-Team led to a clean-up of the site and the securing of countless documents containing Southern New Englanders' personal information.

      WJAR's main web page, www.turnto10.com, continues to be an informative force in the market. According to the latest available statistics, NBC 10's news site had over 7.3 million page views during the month of July, which is a 58 percent increase in traffic since July 2013.

      WJAR's social media pages continue to be the largest among all media outlets in the market. NBC 10's Facebook exceeded 110,000 fans in July. The news department's main Twitter page is now at nearly 25,500 followers.
