New Bedford man held in death of girlfriend's baby
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. —
A 23-year-old New Bedford man was ordered held without bail Tuesday on an upgraded charge of murder in the death of his girlfriend's infant daughter.
Ethen Harrison pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in New Bedford District Court. He's been held without bail since pleading not guilty to earlier assault and child endangerment charges.
Prosecutor Stephen Nadeau said 9-month-old Ariel Eluziario died from "blunt force trauma to the head," on Jan. 24, when Harrison was alone with her.
The Standard-Times reported that the baby's mother, 22-year-old Amanda Eluziario wept in court Tuesday as she sat with the baby's biological father.
Court documents say Harrison told police he was angry when Ariel became "fussy" and caused her to hit her head twice on the floor. She had a large blood clot on her brain and died at a Rhode Island hospital.
Harrison is due back in court March 25.
