New charge brought against man in Seekonk hidden camera case

      Mark McVay

Barrington police have brought an additional charge against a Bristol man accused of hiding a camera in the women's locker room of a gym in Seekonk.

Mark McVay was charged under Massachusetts's upskirting law for allegedly putting a camera in the women's locker room of Planet Fitness on Route 44. Police said McVay recorded himself hiding the camera.

While going through his cellphone, Seekonk police found four cellphone videos of a girl that were taken about six months ago at the United Methodist Church in Barrington.

A detective said McVay claimed the videos were not taken intentionally, but Chief John LaCross said the girl and her family don't feel that way.

"The mother of this victim is very disturbed by the whole process, as the victim is," LaCross said.

McVay, 55, was arrested Tuesday and arraigned in Providence District Court on one count of video voyeurism. He was ordered held at the ACI as a Superior Court probation violator for other crimes.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 9.
