Rhode Island reopens 8 beaches to swimming

Eight beaches in Rhode Island have been reopened to swimming after health officials say tests show they have passed tests for bacteria levels.

The state Department of Health announced Friday it has cleared Barrington Town Beach in Barrington, Easton's Beach in Newport, Goddard Memorial State Park Beach in Warwick, Peabody's Beach in Middletown, Scarborough State Beach (North and South) in Narragansett, Third Beach in Middletown and Warren Town Beach in Warren.

Health officials had closed the beaches on Thursday because of high levels of bacteria.

The state regularly monitors water quality at beaches throughout the summer months and closes beaches found to have high levels of bacteria.
