A North Kingstown man who lived alone was killed early Monday morning when his house caught fire.
Family members told NBC 10 the victim was 73-year-old Harold Leigh. His house at 25 King St. was reduced to charred pile of debris.
North Kingstown Fire Chief Fenwick Gardiner said the fire was so fierce that firefighters could not attempt to get inside when they arrived at about 3:30 a.m.
"These were mill homes. So the age of the home was probably early 1900s, I'd guess. But again, a single individual lived in the home and the house was fully engulfed," Gardiner said.
It took firefighters about an hour to bring the flames under control.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
