RI man faces murder charge in Fall River shooting
FALL RIVER, Mass. —
Police have a suspect in custody for a homicide after a man was killed outside his apartment complex early Sunday morning in Fall River.
In a press release, the Bristol County District Attorney's Office says William Tate, 34, of East Providence was arrested Sunday afternoon on Point Street in East Providence and charged in Massachusetts with murder, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition. He is also charged in Rhode Island as being a fugitive from justice.
The suspect has been identified as David Rodriguez, 26, of Fall River, who according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office was shot outside of the Ship's Cove Apartment complex at 130 Canal Street just before 1 a.m. Sunday.
Police and rescue personnel responded quickly to the 911 calls about the shooting, and upon arrival emergency workers located Rodriquez near a loading dock outside the apartment building. He was transported to St. Anne's Hospital, where he was pronounced shortly after arrival.
According to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office the medical examiner has taken custody of the deceased and will be performing an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
This investigation is considered ongoing at this time, and more information will be given as it becomes available.
