An English teacher at Shea High School in Pawtucket was charged with child pornography charges.
Police said the arrest of George Grimes started with a tip that came into the Rhode Island Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.
State police moved quickly and arrested the 46-year-old Grimes at his home in Warwick on Thursday.
Investigators said laptops, thumb drives and telephones were among the items seized at Grimes' home after a search warrant was executed.
Police said the devices contained images of child pornography.
"Right now, we're talking about photos. As far as quantity, we will not know that until a forensic exam is done on the digital media we seized at the house," state police Maj. Todd Catlow said.
State police said the photos were of pre-pubescent children, but couldn't elaborate further.
The high school English teacher allegedly stored the photographs on a cloud-based server that is monitored by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which gave the tip to state police.
Police confirmed the evidence and made the arrest.
"We reported the arrest to the Pawtucket school department immediately after we did arrest him," Catlow said.
Catlow said there is no indication at this point that Grimes had any sexual contact with children. As a condition of his bail, Grimes is not to have contact with children, including students and two children who live in his home.
"He's in a position of trust. The parents have to trust that the people at the school are going to take care of their children. It's a concern," Catlow said.
The mayor's office said Grimes was put on paid leave.?
