A woman was killed after being struck by a car on Bullocks Point Avenue in East Providence on Friday.
The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Laurie Rozen, of East Providence. Police say she was crossing the street in front of the Stonegate Condominiums when she was killed.
Maria Furtado lives in the complex and says she is a neighbor of the victim, who lived at the complex with her brother.
"She was a very good person, always said good morning, if I had shopping in my hands she would help me bring it up, things like that, you couldn't as for a better neighbor," said Furtado.
The driver told police the woman appeared suddenly in front of her. The driver did stop and call for help.
One neighbor told NBC 10 they saw rescuers performing CPR for some time, trying to save the woman.
Investigators say the area was not well lit at the time of the accident and there are no crosswalks. Something residents say it might make drivers more cautious and drive slower if they see a crosswalk.
Police told NBC 10 initially it doesn't appear the driver did anything improper.
Just a tragic accident on a roadway, those who live here say can be dangerous.
