Police chase through two towns ends in Narragansett
ANarragansett police officer was struck by a fleeing car Monday as two suspectstried to elude police during a chase through two towns.
Narragansettpolice entered the pursuit at about 8 a.m. in North Kingstown.
Aftertraveling south on Boston Neck Road, the suspects'vehicle turned and traveled north on Boston Neck Road and just missed crashinginto a state trooper.
Policesaid the suspects' vehicle entered the RioVista neighborhood and while attempting to escape, struck a Narragansett policecruiser, and then an officer.
Policesaid the suspects' car later crashed andnearly ended up in the woods in a sports field behind the Bonnet ShoresCommunity Center.
Thesuspects, who were reported to be possibly armed and under the influence ofnarcotics, were taken into custody and transported to South County Hospitalwhere they are being held.
Theofficer was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. His condition was not immediatelyknown.
It wasn'timmediately known how the chase began.
JohnBrindamour, of Narragansett, told NBC 10 that he saw the suspect's car in hisneighborhood.
"(This)car came whipping around the corner, flying by and past two police officers.Then I came up to the intersection. There had clearly been some sort ofcollision and someone on the ground. They were helping him, police from SouthKingstown and state troopers," he said.
RhodeIsland State Police, North Kingstown, South Kingstown and Narragansett policeall assisted in the chase.
