Police: Footprints lead to suspects in theft
Fairhaven police said Monday that they arrested two 19-year-old men accused of breaking into a convenience store by following their footprints in the snow.
Investigators said the men broke into the Friendly Farm store at 121 Sconticut Neck Road on Feb. 2.
Police said a concrete block was used to smash the glass of the front door and that champagne and cigarettes were stolen.
Police said Jared Spangler and Tyler Smith, both of Fairhaven, were charged with vandalism, breaking and entering into a building in the nighttime to commit a felony, and larceny from a building.
Investigators found the men by following footprints left in the snow, which led to a house on Day Street.
Police said the teenagers were found together under a blanket. Their pants were wet and cold and they matched the description of two people on the store's surveillance video.
