Police ID woman in North Smithfield fatal crash
NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. —
Police have released the name of the woman who died after the car she was driving struck a tree in North Smithfield.
Police said 66-year-old Elaine Beretta, of Glendale, was driving when she struck a tree at Green Road and Hill View Avenue at about 11:40 a.m. Tuesday.
Beretta was trapped inside her car for about 20 minutes. It took crews from different police departments to get her out.
She was taken by helicopter to the hospital where she later died.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated by police.
