Police identify passenger killed in North Providence crash

Police are investigating a crash overnight in North Providence on the Pawtucket line.

A 21-year-old Pawtucket man was killed in a car crash early Thursday morning.

Dominic Guziejka died after he was thrown from a vehicle following a crash at about 1 a.m. near the 1200 block of Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence.

Guziejka was a passenger in a car with two other men.

His family said the group was leaving a party and about to drop Guziejka off at home when the car crashed into a telephone pole. The car was split in two.

The two other men were taken to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.

Crystal Guziejka, the victim's mother, told NBC 10 she believes high speed and drinking might be to blame. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.

"You hope it's just a dream, a bad dream. Until you realize it's not," Crystal Guziejka said.

Family members said Dominic was eccentric and fun. They said he loved animals and owned snakes, as well as a dog.

"He was an awesome kid. He's great. He's the best son that a mother could ever have," Crystal Guziejka said.

Guziejka was studying auto and diesel mechanics, but was taking a break from school.

North Providence police are working with state police to reconstruct the accident.

No charges have been filed.

"The kid who was driving, he had his hand on the steering wheel and the life of my cousin in his hands," said Kayla Cochran, Dominic's cousin.
