I-Team: Arrest made in Central Falls vandalism case

Central Falls police have arrested and charged a man in connection with a case of vandalism in the city.

Jordan Torres, 18, of Central Falls, was arraigned Wednesday in Providence District Court and charged with vandalism, malicious injury to property and two counts of larceny.

Torres is currently serving 90 days in prison for violating his probation on an earlier sentence. He faces a one-year suspended sentence, one year of probation and has to make good on the damage to the property he vandalized, which was at least $1,000.

Elmer DeLeon called the NBC 10 I-Team after he became aggravated that vandals smashed five windows at his Cowden Street home and shattered another window in his SUV.

DeLeon said he had surveillance video of the damage and the vandals. The video shows two men throwing bricks and rocks through his windows.

DeLeon told NBC 10 he brought the video to police and thought investigators were dragging their feet on the case.

However, Col. James Mendonca of the Central Falls Police Department said that wasn't the case.

Mendonca said DeLeon's video was good, and investigators waited and compared his footage with new video of bicycle thefts at the high school.
