Police make second arrest in North Providence killing
NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. —
North Providence police have made a second arrest in connection with the killing of a man during a home invasion.
Viclei Hernandez, 18, of Providence was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit burglary, burglary, conspiracy to commit assault with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.
Hernandez was charged in connection with the killing of 26-year-old Richard Catalano.
Police have charged with 24-year-old Dari Garcia, of Providence, with murder, assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and other charges.
Catalano's girlfriend told NBC 10 that she thought the shooting was over a pair of sneakers.
A friend of Catalano told NBC 10 that after returning home from the Sneaker XPO in Providence on Aug. 17, Catalano posted a picture of a pile of money on a public Facebook page. The picture was posted the same night police said Garcia broke into Catalano's home with a gun.
Catalano's mother was shot in the jaw and shoulder.
Garcia has an extensive criminal history. He was shot in the abdomen by Providence police during an altercation in February.
