Sex offender accused of assaulting girl in pool
EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. —
A convicted sex offender pleaded not guilty Thursday after being charged with inappropriately touching a 10-year-old girl in a swimming pool.
Raymond Dubord, 63, of Bristol, was charged with simple assault. He posted $500 cash bail and was released.
Police said Dubord kept trying to talk to the girl, then swam up to her and touched her at HealthTrax in East Providence.
Lt. Armen Garo of the East Providence Police Department said Dubord then approached her again and put his finger up to his lips, as if telling her to keep it a secret.
The girl's grandmother reported it to the gym, and then called police.
Dubord told NBC 10 that if he touched her it was by accident.
"I don't remember doing it. I don't remember getting that close to her," he said in a phone interview.
Dubord said it's common to bump into people at a pool and said there were about 20 to 30 people in the pool.
Dubord was arrested Wednesday.
Dubord pleaded no contest to child molestation and sexual assault in 1993.The Associated Press contributed to this report.
