Police ask for public's help in Hopkinton robbery

Police released surveillance video of a smash-and-grab robbery that took place at Pete's Grocery Store on Aug. 10.

A male suspect is seen limping from his car in the surveillance video on Ashaway Road.

Police describe the suspect as having an extreme limp and that he appears to have had a stroke, affecting the left side of his body.

The female suspect can be seen taking cigarettes off a shelf.

Police said the pair smashed the glass on the front door, ran inside and stole a large amount of cigarettes and rolled coins from the register.

They were able to flee the scene; police said the pair drove away in a 90s silver Mercedes SL500 AMG.

Clerks at nearby gas stations said smash-and-grab jobs are becoming more frequent in Hopkinton.

" I'm not too surprised because I live in the next town over in North Stonington, Connecticut and I know that a couple of gas stations have been robbed, so{} it's not too frequent but I'd say like in the last five years I'd say like three gas stations have been robbed," said John McNamara Jr., of Spicer Marketplace.

Police are asking anyone who can help identify this couple to contact Hopkinton Police at (401) 377-7750.
