Police search for man wanted in string of robberies

Police are looking for a man who they said may be responsible for a string of armed robberies in Cranston and Warwick.

According to Cranston police, the man robbed the Ocean State Mobil Gas and Convenience Store on Elmwood Avenue just after midnight Friday.

Police said a white man approached the counter with a pack of gum and a candy bar. He placed change on the counter as if to purchase the items then pulled a gun and ordered the clerk to give him all the money in the drawer.

After taking the money, the man warned the clerk not to follow him as he left heading south on Elmwood Avenue.

Police described the man as being between 45 and 55 years old with gray, spiked hair and wearing dark sunglasses. He was also wearing black fleece pajama bottoms with white writing and a dark-hooded sweatshirt being worn over a gray-hooded sweatshirt.

According to police, the man has a distinct colored tattoo of a flower on his left hand.
