A federal grand jury returned a 24-count indictment on Tuesday, against a Portsmouth couple and their ministry-based health supplement business.
The indictment alleges that through their business, Daniel Chapter One, James and Patricia Feijo marketed and sold more than $2 million worth of cancer treatment products that have not been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
The products included 7 Herb Formula, Bio Shark and GDU.
Federal authorities claim the products were marketed through websites, in-store advertisements, a call center and on a daily radio program.
The indictment also charges the Feijos with tax evasion.
It alleges that from 2006 to 2011, James Feijo told company employees they were independent contractors, and did not issue IRS Wage and Tax Statements or pay employment taxes to the government.
James Feijo is also charged with failing to file individual tax returns with the IRS for at least two years.
The couple will be arraigned at U.S. District Court in Providence at a later date.
