Portsmouth officer hit by vehicle; driver charged

{}A Portsmouth police officer was hit by a vehicle, while sitting in his cruiser at a construction scene early Saturday morning.

According to a department news release, the police were notified of an erratic driver on Turnpike Avenue at about 2:30 a.m.

Shortly thereafter, Portsmouth police dispatch was informed the vehicle struck a cruiser on Bristol Ferry Rd., near the Mt. Hope Bridge.

The injured officer was transported to Newport Hospital.

The other driver, identified as Bianca Jannetta, 24, of Barrington, was held overnight at the Portsmouth station. She was scheduled to{}be arraigned by a justice of the peace on DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test.

The officer was treated and released.
