Prized paintings restored and returned to New Bedford

"Mt. Sir Donald" by Albert Bierstadt after restoration.

The New Bedford Library is now boasting several newly restored paintings.

The Albert Bierstadt paintings took about a year to fix by New London, Connecticut-based conservators Lance Mayer and Gay Myers.

The restored paintings are "Mt. Sir Donald" (1889), "Sunset Light" (1861) and "Sunset on the Platte River" (circa 1875).

Bierstadt was a German immigrant who lived in New Bedford. His paintings hang in museums worldwide.

Money for the restoration came from a Bank of America grant.
