Providence, Cranston mayors host job fair

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and Cranston Mayor Allan Fung hosted an industry and manufacturing job fair at Roger Williams Park Casino on Wednesday.

More than 400 people attended the event, more than organizers expected.

"Look at it, depressed state people are out there looking for work and they want to work too," one employer told NBC 10. "I'm looking to hire 10 people."

MetLife said it was looking to fill dozens of positions.

"MetLife has more than 100 positions to fill. Our immediate need is for customer service representatives along with inbound sales positions," said Tonya Hurteau of MetLife.

Employers said while they were looking for skilled workers, they also perform on-the-job training.

Janet Raymond of the Providence Chamber of Commerce said the people who attended were satisfied with the job fair. She said the majority of employers told her that there will be a call back to at least one person they've met at the job fairs.
