Providence declares parking ban during snow storm

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras has declared a citywide parking ban because of a winter storm that is expected to dump up to 14 inches of snow and spawn blizzard conditions in Rhode Island.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect in Rhode Island with 7-14 inches of snow expected by Sunday morning.{} Southeastern Massachusetts toward the Cape will get 8-15 inches with blizzard conditions there.

Taveras says the Providence parking ban is intended to keep roadways clear for snow plows to work. The ban begins at 6 p.m. Saturday and will remain in force until further notice.
