Mayor Angel Taveras, along with CEO and President of the Providence-Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau Martha Sheridan and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation Kelly Fredericks announced Monday that the Capital City is showcased in an eight-page feature in the May issue of Spirit, the in-flight magazine distributed on all Southwest Airlines and Airtran flights.

"I am proud to partner with the Providence-Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Rhode Island Airport Corporation in this effort to encourage a nationwide audience of travelers to come to Providence" Taveras said. "With a circulation of nearly a half million copies, this magazine feature introduces people across America to Providence's award-winning cultural, culinary and historic attractions."

The article describes Providence as "brimming with historic haunts, notable eateries, and esteemed art museums," noting that the "cultured capital packs quite the punch in its 20 square miles."

Among the attractions featured in the piece are the Rhode Island School of Design Museum, The Dean Hotel, Noon Design, New Harvest Coffee and Spirits, The Dorrance, Pastiche, and historic Benefit Street.

Distribution of the May issue of Spirit is expected to be more than 445,000 copies.
