Providence Fire Department swears in K-9
The Providence Fire Department swore in the newest member of the team Monday.
Tyler -- also called "T" -- is an arson squad K-9. The 20-month-old English Labrador has been working with the Providence arson squad since May.
Arson investigator Sean Reddy and Tyler completed 200 hours of training, and the dog was certified by the Maine State Police as an accelerant K-9, meaning he can detect liquids that can catch fire. A scholarship from State Farm covered the cost of the training.
Tyler is named for Tyler Seddon of Burrillville, a 7-year-old whose battle with leukemia spread through social media because he's a fan of first responders.
