City shuts down nightclub for three nights
The Providence Board of Licenses on Wednesday ordered the Roxy shut down for three days and fined the nightclub $7,000.
The board took the action following at least two incidents last month.
The nightclub came under fire for its handling of an "I'm Shmacked" event on Sept. 12 at which drunk and high college students were passed out in the street.
The party came just a couple of weeks after some fights at the club on Sept. 1.
The city licensing board ruled that Roxy management failed to maintain order and caused a nuisance both nights, and that it misrepresented the type of entertainment event regarding "I'm Shmacked."
As a result, the Roxy will be closed Oct. 31, Nov. 1 and 2. The owner and the manager told NBC 10 they are considering an appeal.
It was not immediately known if the board would act on a stabbing at the club early Sunday morning. Police said 25-year-old Jonathan Perez told investigators the stabbing happened at the Roxy during a fight over a spilled drink.
According to a Providence police report, club security broke up the fight inside just before Perez stumbled outside to alert officers.
