Providence police say man was beaten to death

Providence police said Friday that they are treating a man's death in March as a homicide.

Police said the victim was assaulted on Cranston Street in Providence, but didn't immediately seek medical attention. He went to a hospital seven days later and died from his injuries.

The medical examiner said the man's death was a homicide.

The Providence Journal reported that the victim was Luis Belmont, 45, of Cranston.
