Thousands of people are expected to gather in Providence for a national rally to celebrate recovery from addiction to alcohol and other drugs.
Saturday's "Rally 4 Recovery" is scheduled to be held at Roger Williams National Memorial at 2 p.m. Organizers say they expect 10,000 people or more.
The event is aimed at reducing the negative perceptions associated with recovery from addictions and to raise awareness about available treatment and support services.
Speakers include former Congressman Patrick Kennedy, an advocate for improvement of mental health care, as well as Gov. Lincoln Chafee, a representative from the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy and others.
It will also include live music, activities for children and a procession to Waterfire in the evening.
