The partial government shutdown could close potential homeowners out of new houses.
The government may have shut down, but real estate agents are still trying to push through sales for buyers and sellers.
Real estate agents urge buyers and sellers not to panic. Closings and commitments may take longer to process, but they say patience will pay off.
Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are open and doing business. USDA loans are being affected and some HUD programs are on hold. And there are delays with FHA loans too.
"One of the biggest things is the income tax, IRS. Their website is shut down. A lot of originators will go out to that website to pull the tax transcripts, and they're not able to do that now," said Tammy Pelletier, a Realtor with REMAX.
Real estate agents say the shutdown doesn't mean home buyers shouldn't stop shopping around, but they suggest patience.
Pelletier said there are a few more hoops to jump through, but having the right real estate agent and mortgage originator can help buyers stay on top of what is going on.
