Report: New owner may cut jobs at Journal

The Providence Journal

The incoming owner of the Providence Journal may cut up to 40 jobs at the newspaper, the Providence Business News reported Thursday.

PBN reported that buyer GateHouse Media won't assume the paper's collective bargaining agreements.

"The Buyer shall advise the Seller of up to forty (40) Business Employees to which the Buyer will not be making offers of employment," a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission states.

GateHouse is buying the Journal from A.H. Belo Corp. in a deal valued at $46 million. The sale is expected to close before the end of the year.
