Report: Potential US Senate candidate dealt setback

Raymond McKay

A federal judge on Tuesday dealt Raymond McKay a setback in his bid to run for U.S. Senate as a Republican.

McKay was seeking a temporary restraining order to keep the city of Warwick from enforcing a law that prevents him from running for office while he's a city employee.

The Providence Journal reported that the judge ruled the city has the right to regulate its employees.

McKay's lawyer told the newspaper that he would talk with McKay about his legal options.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Jack Reed has no announced opponents.
