It wasn't quite a twister but for those driving along Route 146 in North Smithfield at about 6:30 Thursday evening, a funnel cloud was quite a sight to behold.
Jan Hilfer snapped a couple pictures of it. He told NBC10, "Off in the distance I could see a funnel cloud starting to form from the sky. It looked like it was making its way to the groundas I got closer and closer, I could see it was getting more and more well formed and people were pulling over and taking pictures of it."
Hilfer said he passed the funnel cloud as it was in the median of the highway. "It was spinning. It had made its way into the median. It was lifting up bits of garbage and debrisI was a little nervous. I didn't feel like hanging around."
There were no reports of damage.
