Rhode Island to share in 36-state settlement with Google

Rhode Island will receive approximately $230,000 as part of a large settlement with Google, over its tracking of consumers.

In all, 36 states will share $17 million.

The settlement acknowledges certain users may not have been aware of third-party 'cookies' registered on their computers.

The settlement also states Google may have placed the 'cookies' without the user's consent.

In addition to the payout,{}the agreement outlines several policies that Google must now follow.
