A Rhode Island Agriculture Day celebration will take place Thursday at the State House.
The state Department of Environmental Management will host the event, in recognition of Rhode Island's agriculture and green industries, worth an estimated $1.7 billion per year.
As part of the event, 17 grants will be awarded to local farmers and seafood businesses to help them promote their business in Rhode Island. The grants are worth up to $20,000 each.
Representatives from Rhody Fresh milk will also be on hand to debut new varieties of locally-made cheeses and other products.
They'll be one of 50 exhibitors with displays in the State House Rotunda from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.
Many of the displays will include food samples, including stuffed quahogs and fresh pastries.
A speaking program will begin at 2 p.m. in the Governor's State Room.?
