RI regulator says bars can sell bottles
Rhode Island's liquor license regulator says bars and restaurants can sell whole bottles of distilled liquor to customers.
The written order from Paul McGreevy, director of the state Department of Business Regulation, reverses a longstanding state position which allowed booze to be sold only by the glass.
The Providence Journal reports (http://bit.ly/10wXJx8 ) city officials believe the order is a misreading of the state law, and plan to sue to stop its enforcement.
McGreevy says the law, while not barring the sale of bottles, does require that the drinks be poured by a trained and certified server.
His order came after a request for an opinion on the law by the owners of the Providence nightclub Karma, which had been fined for selling bottles.
