RI residents in Washington, DC for marriage debate
NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. —
A bus carrying a few dozen opponents of same sex marriage left a North Kingstown church parking lot late Monday night, headed to the nation's capital.
The group is hoping to get into the U.S. Supreme Court hearing on California's same sex marriage law Tuesday.
Members of the group NBC 10 spoke to admitted that's probably a long shot since people on both sides of the issue have been waiting outside the Supreme Court for days now.
They will attend a rally in opposition to same-sex marriage later in the day.
"We believe marriage is a legal union between one man and one woman and we're going down there to support that concept," John Quatromoni of Portsmouth told NBC 10.
The trip is organized by the National Organization for Marriage, with many of the travelers belonging to local church groups.
