RI says flu no longer widespread

Flu Season

The Rhode Island Department of Health said Wednesday that the flu is no longer widespread in the state, lifting a declaration made April 17.

State health officials said the flu does continue to circulate in some communities and that people should take the normal precautions such as hand-washing and covering their coughs.

Health care workers who were not vaccinated are no longer required to wear surgical masks around patients.

The Health Department said there have been 26 flu-related deaths and 620 flu-related hospitalizations in Rhode Island during the 2013-2014 flu season.
