RI to honor fallen Mass. National Guard soldier
PAWTUCKET, R.I. —
Pawtucket city officials are preparing to dedicate a monument honoring the life and service of a 26-year-old Massachusetts Army National Guard soldier who died after his vehicle rolled over in Afghanistan.
Spc. Dennis Poulin (POO'-lihn) died two years ago in Germany, where he was evacuated after the accident.
Poulin lived in Pawtucket most of his life, graduating from Tolman High School in 2004. He was deployed as a gunner with the Massachusetts National Guard when his vehicle overturned in the Afghan province of Konar. He was transferred to German for treatment and died there on March 31, 2011.
Pawtucket Mayor Donald Grebien will join Poulin's mother, Doris, relatives and others to dedicate a stone monument honoring his service on Veterans Day.
Veterans Day is Nov. 11.
