State says $12 million in life insurance sits unclaimed
The state says it has posted a new unclaimed property list in Rhode Island for 2014 and included in unclaimed property and cash, their also sits $12 million in unclaimed life insurance payouts.
According to the Office of the General Treasurer, more than $8 million was returned to Rhode Islanders in 2013.
Abandoned bank accounts, unclaimed insurance proceeds, un-cashed checks, stocks, dividends, and contents of unattended safe deposit boxes are among the assets turned over to the treasury. Inactive bank accounts are considered abandoned after three years.
