RIIL announces Thanksgiving football changes

The Rhode Island Interscholastic League announced a change to the Thanksgiving football tradition.

The Prinicpal's Committee on Athletics voted not to include the holiday games as part of league standings.

The traditional Thanksgiving Day games will be played as non-league games. Divisional championship games will also be played a minimum of seven days after Thanksgiving.

The move affects some of the biggest rivalries in the state including East Providence and LaSalle, Cranston East and Cranston West, North Providence and Smithfield, and North Smithfield and Scituate.
