Taunton police said a man broke into a 71-year-old woman's home Thursday morning and attempted to rob her.
Police responded to a call at about 6 a.m. at 128 Prospect Hill St.
Police said the man used a bird bath to smash a glass door in the back of the house. The man proceeded to attack the woman, hold her down and tape her hands.
"He kept asking her for a combination to a safe. She told him she didn't have one," Detective Michael Bonenfant said.
The man fled on foot before police arrived at the scene.
"We think this is an isolated incident. We don't expect further incidents of this nature to occur today," Bonenfant said.
Taunton police said the investigation is ongoing and that they have no suspects in the case.
The woman's daughter said she would drive her mother to a hospital to ensure she is OK.
