Rollover crash in West Warwick damages vehicles in car lot
WEST WARWICK, R.I. —
The owner of an auto dealership in West Warwick said four of his cars were totaled after an allegedly drunken driver crashed into them early Monday.
Police said a black pickup truck went airborne before it landed on four cars and part of the roof of Route 3 Auto Sales at about 6 a.m.
The driver, whose name was not released, was taken to a hospital with injuries that weren't believed to be life-threatening. No one else was injured.
The dealership is located at the corner of Tiogue Avenue and New London Turnpike.
Niss Lev, the owner of the dealership, said the company just purchased the vehicles last week and had just cleared them for sale. He said he'll be out thousands of dollars if the driver's insurance doesn't reimburse him.
"It's a lot. I really hope the guy has the insurance for it. That's all we can hope for," Lev said.
"It's devastating. It's devastating. The economy is tough. Every sale counts and when you don't have the merchandise to sell, it's even tougher," said Larry Shwartz, manager of Route 3 Auto Sales.
Police said the driver will be charged with drunken driving.
