The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority held informational sessions Saturday to inform the public about potential rate structures for tolls on the new Sakonnet River Bridge.
On the table are three scenarios that range from $.75 to $1.60 for those with a Rhode Island EZ Pass.
RITBA chair David Darlington also said certain discounts may be factored in to whatever plan is approved.
For example, one option is to "only charge a resident one time in each direction per day," Darlington said.
Out of state residents may also get the option of purchasing a Rhode Island EZ pass and pay the lower rate for state residents.
But opponents want no tolls at all.
State representative John Edwards, a democrat who represents the district affected, said he has filed legislation to repeal the transfer of the bridge from the Department of Transportation to the Turnpike and Bridge Authority, which would in effect repeal the tolls.
A hearing on that bill before the House Finance Committee on April 25th at 1:00.
After receiving more input from the public today, the Turnpike and Bridge Authority board is scheduled to vote on the rate proposals April 17th.
