Seekonk police: Suspect records himself placing hidden camera
Seekonk police said Friday that they have identified the man who put a hidden camera in the women's locker room of the Planet Fitness gym on Route 44.
They said the suspect recorded himself putting the camera in place.
Police did not release the man's name citing the nature of the investigation, but they said Planet Fitness employees identified him as a member of the gym.
Police said the man could potentially face charges under the state's upskirting law.
Seekonk police told NBC 10 News that the secret camera was discovered at about 2 a.m. Wednesday. They said the camera had been recording for more than 21 minutes when it was found.
A Planet Fitness corporate spokeswoman sent NBC 10 News a statement Thursday.
"At Planet Fitness, the privacy of our members is extremely important to us. We are aware of the alleged incident that took place at the Planet Fitness in Seekonk, MA. The franchise owner is working closely with the local authorities to investigate this matter," the statement said.
Seekonk police said the Bristol County district attorney and the Bristol, Rhode Island, police have assisted the investigation.
