Driver smashes into tree in I-195 crash

Officials said a driver hit a tree canusing an intrusion of three feet into the car.

One person was taken to Rhode Island Hospital Monday afternoon following a one-car crash on I-195 between exits 2 and 3 in Swansea.

Swansea Fire Chief Peter Burke told NBC 10 the driver went off the road and hit a tree, causing a three-feet intrusion into the passenger's front seat. The crash caused the license plate to split in half.

Rescue crews used winches and heavy hydraulic tools to free the driver. They said injuries appear to be serious.{} Police have not identified the driver.
