Mass. nightclub shut after 7 injured in shootings
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — New Bedford Police were called to the Jalice Caf on Acushnet Ave early Saturday morning for reports of a shooting.At about 1:30 a.m. police found two people who had been shot at the club. They were transported by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said two victims were shot, one in the elbow and one in the lower leg. Officers later learned that five others had gone to a local hospital on their own, each suffering from injuries to their lower legs.Police are currently investigating the shooting. A total of ten shell casings were discovered during the overnight investigation.
Initial reports from police indicate a patron may have come outside of the business to find a drink on his vehicle. He then slapped it away which struck another patron. This turned into a pushing and shoving match which led to the shots being fired.All seven shot are residents of New Bedford. Four males and three females were injured as a result of the shooting. All of the victims are in their 20's with the exception of one 19-year-old male.
