Shutdown derails family's travel plans
CRANSTON, R.I. —
The partial government shutdown is hurting Southern New England businesses, and laid-off workers are feeling the brunt.
But even people who are still getting paid are paying a price.
Betty Jordan had planned a trip with her daughter, Shannon, who's in the Army. But it's been canceled because of the shutdown.
"From a military person's point of view, family, to spend any time with family is gold," Jordan said.
The shutdown sent Jordan's daughter back to her post in Hawaii from a school assignment in South Carolina without a visit to New England.
They were planning a trip to California to see Jordan's grandson.
