A sinkhole opened Friday on High Street in Westerly when an underground pipe burst.
Town Engineer Paul Leblanc said the call came in between 4 and 5 p.m.
"Actually, it was a smaller sinkhole that was noticed, that was reported to police, and at that point the road was shut down," Leblanc said.
Crews had to make the hole bigger to fix the problem.
"Another temporary repair will be made. Hopefully, we'll be out of here in three or four hours, something like that," Leblanc said.
LeBlanc said the town has had trouble at the same spot before and that crews will make a temporary fix.
