Smokey fire doused at NEA

Cranston firefighters spent nearly five hours, at the scene of a fire at the National Education Association{}building on Bald Hill Rd. Friday night.

Deputy Chief Herb Bassett told NBC 10 News the fire started in a salon,in the basement of the{} building at 99 Bald Hill Rd. around 9:30 p.m.{}

The fire was initially reported in more than one unit, and Chief Bassett told us it took some time to fine the exact location.

Crews were able to confine the fire to the salon.

Firefighters needed to spend several hours, checking for hot spots, and ventilating the smoke.

The building was vacant at the time.{} No firefighters were hurt.

Last crews left the scene just after 2:15 a.m. Saturday.
