State police begin carrying overdose drug Narcan
Rhode Island State Police said Friday that troopers will carry Narcan, the life-saving antidote that helps counteract the effects of a drug overdose.
Col. Steven O'Donnell said the move was in response to an "epidemic."
In Rhode Island, 90 people have died from drug overdoses this year, a 45 percent jump from two years ago.
The state ordered 300 Narcan kits at the cost of $35 each.
The kits were paid for with drug money seized by the federal government.
